Rct170 battery running flat - Mat1998 - 11-09-2018

Hey guys,
So I've noticed over the last week or so that my starting issue has returned with a vengeance so I decided to test the battery voltage with a voltmeter while revving the scooter, and on the rct the max voltage reached about 12.6 volts. I repeated the same test on my brother's retro 150 and the max voltage was 14.8 volts. Do you guys think it's something wrong with the alternator?

Hey guys,
Turns out it was the regulator which needed replacing.

Great news that you are back on the road.

Good job find the cause of your charging problem, Mat. Not everyone has the knowledge when it comes to electrical type faults. If or when you have time, do you mind sharing on how you went about tracing the charging fault to the regulator? It may just help some the other member(s) with the same / similar fault.

Well what I did at first, was put the scooter on the center stand, and remove the battery cover, and then when you receive the scooter the voltage at the battery terminals is supposed to spike quite a bit higher than the batteries 12 volts, to roughly 13.5-14.5 volts. When I performed that test on my rct it only reached 12.5 so I knew it wasn't getting enough power to actually charge the battery fully. The same test on my brother's 150cc scooter was where I got the baseline of what the voltage should be so I knew something was wrong. The scooter dealership I use has a proper auto electrician, because the dealerships owners husband has a car service center next door so he did more specialised tests and replaced the part and they didn't even charge me labour, they've also give me a spare mirror when got knocked over by a guy texting and driving behind me, and because of that I won't ever use a different dealership.

Thanx for the feedback.

Hi guys, please tell me do you know the spec on this model Scoters battery, I want to order one and it needs delivering, the dealer wants the battery details.

I would appreciate any help here, thanks.

As far as I know, most scooters have exactly the same spec batteries, but I'll check for you in about an hour or two what battery I have in mine
